Tiger Woods Involved in Rollover Crash on Jupiter Island

Golf legend Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover crash on Jupiter Island just after 2 p.m. Friday, according to deputies.

The crash happened near 281 Beach Road, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said. A photo from the scene showed the vehicle on its side as emergency crews responded.

According to Martin County Fire Rescue, the crash involved two vehicles — a pickup truck pulling a pressure cleaner trailer and a Land Rover driven by Woods. One of the vehicles overturned during the incident. Officials said one person was in stable condition, while another refused transport to the hospital. No injuries were reported.

Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods was arrested on a DUI charge following the crash near his home. During a press conference, he said the Jupiter Island Police Department first received reports of the rollover shortly before 2 p.m., prompting a response from multiple agencies.

Investigators said the pickup truck was traveling northbound on South Beach Road and was slowing down to turn into a driveway when Woods attempted to pass at a high rate of speed. The sheriff said Woods’ vehicle clipped the rear of the trailer being towed by the truck, causing him to lose control.

The Land Rover then rolled onto its driver’s side and slid along the roadway before coming to a stop. Despite the severity of the crash, Woods was able to climb out of the vehicle through the passenger side door and did not appear to be injured at the scene.

Budensiek said responding deputies quickly noticed signs that Woods appeared impaired. DUI investigators were called in and conducted roadside tests to assess his condition. Based on those tests, Woods was taken into custody and transported to the Martin County Jail.

Authorities said Woods later took a breathalyzer test, which came back clear, indicating alcohol was not believed to be a factor. However, he refused to submit to a urinalysis test, which is required under Florida law in DUI investigations. As a result, he now faces charges of DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

Officials said Woods was held for approximately eight hours, which is standard procedure in DUI cases, before later bonding out of jail.

While alcohol has been ruled out, investigators said they are looking into whether Woods may have been impaired by medication or another substance at the time of the crash.

The crash drew significant attention due to Woods’ history with previous vehicle incidents. In 2021, he was seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash in California after losing control of his SUV at a high rate of speed and striking a tree. He suffered multiple fractures to his right leg and required several surgeries during his recovery.

An earlier incident in 2009 near his Florida home also made headlines after Woods crashed his vehicle into a fire hydrant and a tree. That crash resulted in minor injuries and did not lead to criminal charges.

Despite the dramatic nature of Friday’s crash, authorities confirmed that no one involved suffered serious injuries. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances leading up to the collision.
